Andhra Pradesh is one of the few States in the Country, with a separate Secretariat Department for the Welfare of Women and Children. The Women's Welfare Dept., was established in the erstwhile Madras state in 1952 with special programs for Women and Children by converting the activities of the Indian Women's civil corps started by the wives of the military officers to take care of the war widows and their Children, after 2nd World War .
